About MSM Case Evaluation Notable Verdicts
Experience

John M. Masters is a founding shareholder in the firm with more than
twenty years experience in labor and ERISA law.  Prior to Masters and
Sivinski LLC, John formed his own firm, Masters & Associates.  He
rapidly gained a national reputation for his work representing the
Teamsters in battles with the Akron Beacon Journal and Cleveland
Presidents of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters along with
local unions affiliated with the Teamsters, Paperworkers,
Boilermakers, Steelworkers, and Laborers. John has successfully
negotiated dozens of high profile labor contracts covering large
bargaining units including: the Ohio Turnpike Commission, Schwebel
Baking Company, St. Elizabeth Hospital and Granger Trucking.  With
his guidance, his clients have prevailed on the vast majority of
discharge cases that have been taken to arbitration.  In addition, John
has extensive experience successfully representing his clients at the
National Labor Relations Board.

John is perhaps best known for his successful representation of his
clients during investigations conducted by the Department of Labor, the
Organized Crime Strike Force and the Teamsters Internal Review
Board. In more than twenty years of audits, reviews and investigations
by these internal and external investigatory bodies, in no case were his
clients found to have violated federal law.

His ERISA practice has included representing the Central States,
Southeast and Southwest Areas Pension and Welfare Funds and local
Taft- Hartley pension and welfare benefit funds.  John has recovered
millions of dollars for his ERISA clients in withdrawal liability and
delinquent contribution actions.

In addition to the Ohio Bar, John is admitted to practice law in the U.S.
District Court for the Northern District of Ohio, and the U.S. Courts of
Appeals for the D.C. Third, Sixth and Seventh Circuits.

Education

Born on March 4, 1958 in Buffalo, NY, John received his Bachelor of
Science in Labor Economics from The University of Akron in 1981,
graduating
magna cum laude. In 1982, he was named the Black
McCluskey Scholar at Case Western Reserve University School of Law,
and received his law degree in 1985.   Since graduating, John
remained in the Northeast Ohio area, successfully representing clients
throughout the state.

Honors

Due to his successful labor and ERISA law practice, John has
achieved a Martindale Hubble AV rating, the highest distinction
available as voted by his peers.
