than twenty years experience as a trial lawyer representing plaintiffs
who have been injured by the misconduct or negligence of another, or
who have suffered a workplace injury. John concentrates his practice
in personal injury, wrongful death, eminent domain, products liability,
asbestos-related injuries and labor law and has tried in excess of 50
cases to verdict, including five multi-million dollar verdicts.
John’s reputation as a skilled and sophisticated litigator has enabled
him to negotiate settlements in excess of $100 Million Dollars for
injured clients. John has also achieved national recognition for his
widespread work on behalf of plaintiffs in asbestos litigation, where he
has tried cases in many states, most notably, Ohio and Florida.
Prior to his work in asbestos, John also represented unions on various
labor law issues and represented men and women with personal
injuries. In addition to the Ohio Bar, John is admitted to practice law
before the United States District Courts for the Northern and Southern
District of Ohio, the 6th and 7th Circuit Courts of Appeals and has
argued cases before numerous Ohio Courts of Appeal.
Education
Born on October 21, 1959 in Port Clinton, Ohio, John graduated from
John Carroll University in 1983 with a Bachelor of Science degree in
Biology. He earned his law degree from Case Western Reserve
School of Law, where he graduated cum laude in 1986. John was
recently inducted into the Port Clinton High School Hall of Fame,
honoring his athletic achievements in baseball and football.
Honors
As a result of his trial work, John is certified as a Civil Trial Advocate by
the National Board of Trial Advocacy, recognizing his “excellence
demonstrated in the field of civil trial law.” John has also achieved a
Martindale Hubble AV rating, the highest distinction available as voted
by his peers and is a member of the ATLA Million Dollar Advocates
Forum.

John is a member of the Cleveland Bar Association, Ohio Bar
Association and the American Association for Civil Justice.
Notable Verdicts
- $6.3 Million Settlement: Wrongful Death/Employment
Intentional Tort on behalf of three families whose
husbands/fathers were killed in an explosion at a chemical
plant in southern Ohio.
- $1.8 Million Jury Verdict: Products Liability claim against
Defendant Union Carbide on behalf of a drywaller/plasterer who
developed asbestosis as a result of breathing asbestos fibers
supplied by Union Carbide which were used in the joint
compound applied by Plantiff.
- $2 Million Jury Verdict: Products Liability claim against
asbestos insulation manufacturer for a maintenance worker
who contracted mesothelioma as a result of his exposure to
asbestos pipecovering.
- $4.5 Million Jury Verdict: Wrongful death award for family
whose husband/father was exposed to asbestos as an auto
mechanic and died from mesothelioma, as a result of his
exposure to automobile friction products.
- $1.6 Million Dollar Jury Verdict: Wrongful death award against
an asbestos insulation manufacturer for widow whose
husband could not receive coronary bypass surgery due to his
asbestos-related mesothelioma and died from a heart attack.
- $2.585 Million Jury Verdict: Product liability award for a
boilermaker who was occupationally exposed to asbestos
insulation. Included $2.5 Million punitive damage award upheld
by the Ohio Supreme Court
- Jury Verdict Awarding Workers' Compensation Death Benefits:
Obtained a jury verdict for a widow of a police officer who died
from a blood clot that had formed in his leg while seated in a
patrol car for long periods of time and then traveled to his lung
causing his death after he had come home from work.
